Combat and Towers

This week was a pretty big step from the previous state of the game. In this devlog I will cover all newly added features, and provide some detail on each.

Enemy Health

That's right, you can actually kill the enemies now! Each enemy now has a small health bar underneath them to indicate their health. Currently, the maximum health is the same for all enemies, but this will be changed in the future to allow for beafier enemies.

Player Shooting

The player can now interact with enemies by shooting them (using the mouse position for aiming). For now the player's gun only does a fixed amount of damage, however once upgrades are implemented, you will be able to make the player's weapon much more effective. I'm also (tentatively) planning to only allow the player to shoot during a wave and interact with towers and the UI outside of a wave, as currently it is rather easy to accidently click on things you don't want to.

(Minor) Spritework

I have created custom tile sprites for the background, though this art is subject to change later on. It is very likely that extra little details will be added to make the background less boring to look at.

Towers!

This feature is easily my favourite out of this week's changes. I've now (almost) fully implemented the Tower AI, so that you can build towers on the map and let them do all the work for you. Obviously in the future these towers will not be free to place down, but for now you can place as many as you like. There are however some limitations, i.e. features yet to be implemented. Currently, the towers track the furthest enemy along the path (within their range) and shoot bullets unique to its tower type. Selling and upgrading towers is not yet possible however.

That's about it as far as progress for this time, but know that development is getting easier over time now that most of the base features are covered. Expect to see even more progress next week!

Let me know if you find any bugs in this week's build, or if you have any suggestions in general. Thanks!
